The holidays are here and it's time to enjoy good friends and family. To reflect on where we have been and what we plan to do. To take stock of the things we like and dislike about ourselves. So reflect thoroughly and devise a better you. Then the better you can help to create a better world in which to live. Perhaps if we all do this we can make the greatest wish that humanity has come true, peace on earth. If not peace on Earth then at least peace within ourselves. (That could lead to peace on Earth, it's just a longer route. Perhaps the more permanent one) So while you are enjoying the company of your family and friends, take the time to enjoy your own company as well. It might be enlightening and it will definitely be beneficial.
It never ceases to amaze me.. words that often leave my fingers but they are true. It never ceases to amaze me the rapidity with which the world changes. Or how hard it is to preserve a moment in time. They all seem to pass so quickly, the moments. Capturing a feeling is even harder. But that is my job, as an artist. To distill the amazing thing that is our human existence and render it into a concise visual medium. Each experience as unique as the distillation process. As unique as each viewer. And as amazing as these things are, they change too quickly to truly capture. Art can only take a glancing view of a particular point in time and hope that the artist can fill in the rest.
Fortunately, the process of distillation gives back to the artist as well. Providing catharsis and therapy. Bringing a sense of expression, of being heard. Communication is imperative to humanity. Understanding and empathy necessary for a productive, contributory life. Art brings emotion to light. Allowing growth and empathy even among the most stunted of human beings. Art is the expression of the equation that is life.
